Make the setup repeatable

Choose a place with even light and a quiet background. Put the camera at approximately eye level and mark where you stand or sit. Keep the camera distance and lens choice consistent rather than moving very close for one picture. For example, take both reference portraits beside the same window with the phone on the same shelf. Note the time if daylight is your main light source.

Keep the image treatment stable

Use the same orientation and crop, and avoid an appearance-altering filter for a comparison meant to show a real change. Keep expression and head position similar without forcing an uncomfortable pose. Retain the original files rather than relying only on compressed copies sent through messaging apps. If you wear glasses or move your hair away from your face, record that choice so a later comparison does not silently mix different setups.

Read the comparison as a photograph

Write the question beside the images: whether a side part frames the face differently, for example. Compare that choice rather than hunting for an improved face score. Looks+ lists analysis history, but a history entry is not proof that your skin or features have objectively improved. A change in shadow, expression, or framing remains a possible explanation for a visual difference. If the setup changed substantially, mark the pair as unsuitable for direct comparison and retake it if useful. Keep only the photographs you need, and review sharing choices before uploading another portrait.

Take it with you

  • Repeat camera position, lighting, and framing.
  • Keep original files and note changes to the setup.
  • Compare a specific style choice, not personal worth.
